Feelin Groovy 2008 Auction
A groovy time was had by one and all at the 22nd annual Bishop McGuinness dinner and auction, “Feelin Groovy.” Over 400 hip hugging, bell bottom clad guests journeyed back to the 60’s at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum last weekend. Tables were adorned with tie-dyed tablecloths and flower power center pieces. Psychedelic decorations, peace symbols and even protest signs greeted guests. The evening provided dinner catered by Deep Fork Wood Grill & Seafood, dancing to the music of The Groove Merchants, four separate silent auctions with over 600 items and the live auction. The Sweet Shoppe offered over 50 delicious, delectable goodies most of them homemade. New this year was the “candy bar” where patrons scooped up their favorite sweet treats. Also new was the Laugh-In inspired Joke Wall where guests were told jokes as they selected bottles of wine or gift certificates.
The Dutch Auction generated $14,400 for computers for the mobile computer lab.
Highlights of the evening were the multitude of drawings. The winner of the Teacher Appreciation Drawing was Sister Stephanie Sanchez. Sr. Sanchez will enjoy a five day getaway at a lovely house on Lake Texoma. The winner of the Love Bead drawing for a Las Vegas getaway was McGuinness alum Susie Ellegard. Susie will enjoy a four day, three night stay at the Bellagio Hotel.
The raffle drawing had three prizes this year: the 50 inch Philips Plasma HDTV which was set up to accommodate fans of the NCAA final four basketball game, a $2,500 Visa Gift Card and a 2008 GMC Acadia or $20,000. Winner of the television was Jim and Madalene Corsoro. Winning the $2,500 gift card was Rob and Steva Krier and the grand prize winner of the 2008 Acadia was Rick and Monica Rosencrans. Proceeds from the auction benefit McGuinness capital projects and the school’s endowment fund.
