Greeting Prayer Partners,
It has been several months since I last developed intentions. I'm hoping that summer was good for each of you and that you and your families are ready to start the business of this new school year. Beginnings are so very hopeful, don't you agree? That is what we are about. I would like to share a little from The readings of Thursday's liturgy. The prophet Ezekiel condemned the religious leaders for not caring for the sheep. They took care of themselves first and let the sheep wander or starve. The gospel presents that troubling parable of the vineyard owner who goes out several times during the day to discover men who had been hired during the day. He sends them into his vineyard up to an hour before the end of the work day. He paid them all a full day's wages. I'm pretty sure that a good economist would tell that vineyard owner he better rethink his policies. However, I think that this parable is an image of how God, the new shepherd cares for his new sheep. He gave more than was 'earned' and did it ungrudgingly. That's God for us. He gives us more than we can imagine and certainly more than we have 'earned'! I'm truly grateful for that generosity because I as a sinner am not due anything. What do you think about God's generosity? Have a great new school year.
