OKLAHOMA CITY - One by one, can by can, students at Bishop McGuinness high school load donated canned goods in bins to go on trucks for the regional food bank of Oklahoma.

Quincy Plank is the senior chair of the school's food drive. It's like many drives across the state at this time of year, but this one has special significance.

This year, the school surpassed a million pounds donated, a big achievement.

"It really makes me feel good because we're going to help others than ourselves," Plank said.

Junior Conor Maguire says while the achievement is awesome for the school, what it means for people in the OKC area is even better.

"It's awesome to know our school has done such a big thing of getting a million pounds, but it's really about more than that its not about Mcguiness, it's about helping the community," Maguire said.

This all adds up to 80-thousand pounds of donated food this year alone, during a time we focus on food, when many of our neighbors have none.

"In Oklahoma, one in six people when they go home and they open the cupboard or refrigerator, there may not be anything in there, and that's why donations like this one are so important," said Angie Gaines, director of marketing for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.

Dear Prayer Partners,
This next Sunday is the feast Of Christ the King, the last Sunday of the liturgical year. The following Sunday will be the first Sunday of Advent – where has the time gone??? The readings remind us of how God will care for us even destroying death. That gives us many reasons to celebrate. I am therefore challenging you to cultivate the "attitude of gratitude" until we get to Thanksgiving. Each night consider your day and thank God for five gifts you noticed that day. You must try to avoid repeating anything from the day previous. You will discover how gifted you are and will try to use the gifts already shared by God well, before you ask for more! A grateful heart lives life with gratitude and seeks to share with others. May your Thanksgiving be blessed abundantly!

Lord of Life, grant eternal life to those who have died: Fr. Dear Prayer Partners,
I'd like to use the excerpt from Paul's letter to the Thessalonians as the source of my comments. Paul reminds his readers and us that we are "children of light" and not of darkness. Therefore, we must be ready for the day when Christ returns. We must us the gifts shared with us to the best of our ability. Hiding them, ignoring them, or not using them denies our giftedness. God would not share with us a charism if we weren't capable of using it. Note the gift, understand God's supportive grace, and work to improve your area of the God's Kingdom.

Lord of Life, grant eternal life to those who have died: Russell Brown (Caroline Dykstra's grandfather), Mary Kelley (grandmother of: Maddie Marshall, Zack, Paul, & Tim Kelley, Charlie Miles and mother of many alumni), Barbara Basgall's great aunt, Alice Meysing, Deanie Rice's sister, Jason Goff, Fred Weaver, Sr. Catherine Powers' brother, Jennifer Briggs, Heather Wilson, young people killed in shooting in high school outside of Seattle, Babe Knouse and victims of violence of any kind

Dear Prayer Partners,
"You are God's building and his Temple and this Temple is holy." What then are you doing to maintain your temple's holiness? Certainly prayer, performing acts of kindness as well striving to develop the 'mind of Jesus' will lead to our holiness. God's grace sustains us in this effort but we must strive to be humble and truly allow God's Spirit to guide us. This is no easy task, for we often feel like children 'who can do it on our own!' Seek the Spirit's guidance and pray for those who have gone before us. They in turn will pray for us so that we all will be ready to enjoy the face of God.
