Bishop McGuinness students, parents, and teachers travel annually to Peru for a service mission trip. The joy of their most recent journey was captured in this video by current senior Becca Ray. The BMCHS contingent began their trip with a tour of the capital Lima, including the church of St. Rose of Lima. Afterward they reached their home base, the Santisimo Sacramento Parish in Piura, home of Fr. Joe Uhen, Bishop McGuinness Class of 1976 alumnus.
On the trip students participate in a variety of activities throughout local villages. In past years, they have visited a girls orphanage for fun and fellowship, taught English classes, led a Bible study, helped distribute clothing and food, and built houses. Students make connections by playing with children, dancing at fiestas, holding babies, and praying with people. Through it all, they learn about teamwork, patience, and the importance of a good attitude and a smile. The goal is to let God work through them, to see the face of Christ in others, and to be the face of Christ for others.
