Tao Ling (Ling Miller) was born into an artistic and intellectual family in Anshan Liaoning province, in the northeastern part of China. She has worked very hard to continue the educational and artistic traditions of her family, by doing tai chi, folk dance, paper-cut, and calligraphy at Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School. Ling has been an active dramatist herself, both writing and performing in plays. In 2003, she won top honors for her play, “A Forest Tale.” In 2005 she and her troupe toured five countries in Europe and participated in the 200th Anniversary of the birth of Hans Christian Andersen in Denmark. In January 2006 she won first prize in a competition for writers of children’s plays. Her troupe performed her play “Light Hearted” before a live audience of several hundred million people. She swims every day, writes stories, poetry, and makes traditional Chinese foods.
