Happy Monday Everyone! Hope you enjoyed a great weekend. Thank you to all the parents who attended Parent Classroom night last week. For those of you who requested paper copies of the student directory, we will let you know when they have arrived. Thanks also to the PTSO Hospitality Committee who provided our refreshments and the Student Ambassadors who did a great job all night.
If you were not in attendance at Pribil stadium Friday night as the Irish hosted Deer Creek, you missed one of the best comeback performances in Irish football history! A team that was down 21-0 in the first quarter played lights out and tied the game 28 all. With the Irish on the Antler’s 36 yard line and 5 seconds left on the clock, junior Josh Berney calmly kicked a 46 yard field goal giving the Irish the win!! Josh has been nominated for The Oklahoman’s Fan’s Choice Player of the Week. To vote for Josh, simply click on the following link: Vote for Josh Berney. You can also vote for wide receiver Rubell Goe as the OK Preps Player of the Week by clicking on this link: Vote for Rubell Goe. The team will play this Thursday night at Southeast High School. Good luck also to the Volleyball and Softball teams as they compete in regional action this week.
I want to thank all the students and parents who came out to support the Birth Choice Celebration for Life Walk last Sunday at the Myriad Gardens. Thank you also to Campus Minister Joe Welch for his work on this event.
I am very proud to announce the Student of the Month for August is Hunter Hill and the Student of the Month for September is Chika Nwanebu. These students are chosen by their peers and faculty for their leadership and dedication to the school as well as their academic achievements!
Once again, the OSSAA One Act Play regional competition will be held at our school this Thursday – Saturday in the Petuskey Performing Arts Auditorium. Best of luck to all the actors and stage craft students involved.
Fall Break is this Friday! The following Wednesday morning (October 14) there will be NO LATE START. The PSAT (Pre SAT exam and National Merit Qualifying Exam) will be given to 9th, 10th and 11th grade students. This exam provides valuable information for students preparing to enter college. Seniors will be participating in Career Day hosted by the Bishop McGuinness Alumni Executive Board. Following both the exam and Career Day, school will be dismissed for the remainder of the day. No lunch will be served.
In order to prepare students for all aspects of the college admission process we were pleased to welcome Jarrod Tahsequah, Asst. Director of Diversity Enrichment Programs at the University of Oklahoma onto our campus today. Mr. Tahsequah spent time in the senior English classes discussing the role of the essay in selecting students, examples of good writing samples, and how the writing sample is used in the more holistic admission process that many universities are now adopting with the Common App. This information is valuable for the students moving into the next stage of their academic career.
We will be hosting Open House on Sunday, November 1 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm for all prospective students and parents. We encourage all current 8th graders to visit our campus during this time. We will be offering the STS 8th grade placement exam on Saturday, November 7 & 14 from 8:00 – 11:30 am. Students can register online at www.bmchs.org.
Have a blessed week!
Yours in Christ,
