Our Catholic

Faith

History

Since 1950, Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School has provided a quality college preparatory education for students in the greater Oklahoma City area. Catholic schools are traditional in their academic background in core subjects such as math, science, English, foreign languages and social sciences. It is, however, our Catholic faith values that enable our school to address the needs of the whole person.

Values

Bishop McGuinness High School is a Catholic, coeducational, college-preparatory community committed to forming the whole person. Rooted in faith, service, and Gospel values, we partner with families to nurture students’ spiritual, intellectual, and personal growth, preparing them to live with purpose, integrity, and compassion.

Mission

As a Catholic community of faith, Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School is dedicated to educating and developing the whole person, providing a moral, ethical and Christ centered compass for life. The teachings of the Church permeate the school’s spiritual, academic and social life, forming a “Person for Others."

Testimonials

The Honorable Bernard M. Jones

Class of 1997

My experience at McGuinness grounded me in faith—faith in myself and faith in a living Savior. It taught me to trust God’s plan, and through that trust, I learned that no obstacle is too great.

Dr. David Chansolme

Class of 1989

My Catholic faith calls me to serve others with compassion and humility, whether through my work in healthcare, my involvement at church and Bishop McGuinness, or the many ways I support the community. Catholic education has shaped my family for generations, and cheering on the Irish alongside my children is a reminder that service, faith, and community are deeply connected.

Dr. Lynn Seely

Class of 1977

I learned four things at McGuinness that have consistently guided my life and career: always value and treat all people with respect, work hard, learn as much as you possibly can, and don’t shy away from challenges and opportunities that force you out of your comfort zone.

Greg Slavonic

Class of 1967

I am deeply grateful to my parents for the sacrifice they made to send me to McGuinness, a place that helped shape who I am today. Through football under Coaches Eddie Joseph and John Gavula, I was challenged to become mentally tough and learned firsthand that real success is built through discipline, resilience, and teamwork.

My time at McGuinness taught me what it truly means to be a person for others. Through everyday moments, not just big milestones, I grew in faith, character, and compassion. This community showed me that who you are matters more than what you achieve, and I leave McGuinness grounded in values of love, kindness, and service that I will carry with me forever.

It has been an honor to be part of the McGuinness family. I am grateful to work alongside dedicated educators who care deeply about student success inside and outside the classroom. Being part of this faith community has strengthened my Catholic faith, and seeing former students share their successes affirms the lasting impact a McGuinness education has on the people they become.

Bishop McGuinness is more than a school to me; it is home. As the parent of three alumni and the spouse of an alumnus, I have seen firsthand how our faith centered education forms young people of character, compassion, and purpose. It is a privilege to serve McGuinness now and help grow its mission for the future, knowing our students will go on to make the world a better place.

McGuinness gave me more than a great education—it shaped who I am. The school strengthened my faith and encouraged me to grow in character through service and accountability, and surrounded me with a community that truly felt like family. This was never more evident than this last year, the community and network of McGuinness is vast and always supportive. The lessons I learned here continue to guide my values, work ethic, and relationships long after graduation.
